Privacy policy

Carllector is built to keep your car photos yours. Here is exactly what happens to them.

Last updated: 6 September 2026

What Carllector collects

The cars you save, when you spotted them, your star ratings, your folders, and the photos and clips you choose to add. If you create an account we also keep your email address, and a nickname if you pick one.

We record anonymous usage statistics — which screens are opened and whether a scan worked — so we can fix problems. These never include your photos or your email.

Where your photos live

Photos and clips are kept on your phone, inside this app’s own storage. They are not uploaded anywhere while you use Carllector as a guest.

If you sign in, a private copy is also kept in your account so the same cars appear on your other devices. Only you can open those files. You can turn photo keeping off at any time in Settings.

Clearing your browser or app data removes the copies on the phone. If you are not signed in, those photos cannot be recovered.

Number plates and location

Every photo is checked for a visible number plate, and any plate found is permanently pixelated before the photo is kept anywhere. The original is not stored.

Photos are re-saved in a way that strips the hidden information cameras attach, including GPS location. Carllector never asks for or records where you are. Clips are kept as recorded, so switch off location tagging in your camera app if you record them.

Sharing is your choice

Your garage is private by default. A share link and the public leaderboard are both opt-in, and you can switch either off whenever you like.

A share link shows the cars, tiers and ratings only — never your own photos, notes or email. The leaderboard shows only your nickname, how many cars you have, your Tier 1 count and your rarest car.

Who else is involved

Photos you scan are sent to an AI recognition service purely to identify the car, and are not used to train it. We use Google Analytics for anonymous usage statistics, and a hosting provider that stores your account data securely.

Deleting your data

In Settings you can delete your saved photos, clear your collection from this device, or delete your whole account. Deleting the account removes your cars, photos, nickname and share link for good.

Children

Carllector is for spotting cars in public. It is not aimed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly keep accounts for them.
